Sweet Simple Samplings

Vine Border

Leaf*DESIGNER NOTE*: There is an enlarged chart for this design (with an overlap of four stitches - shaded area) for easy viewing; however, the shaded area on the original printing is extremely light and difficult to see - this was not intentional and will be corrected on future printing. Please use caution when switching between pages, making sure to accommodate for the four stitch overlap.

LeafStitch counts:

Sampler – 66 H x 390 W
Each individual square (if stitching smalls) - 47 H x 47 W

LeafModels are stitched on 40-count Lentil hand-dyed fabric from Lakeside Linens.

LeafModel is stitched with Weeks Dye Works cotton floss (DMC equivalent provided).

Weeks Dye Works Cotton Floss (DMC):
Americana (824) - 1 skein
Begonia (601) - 1 skein
Bluecoat Blue (3765) - 1 skein
Blue Spruce (319) - 1 skein
Carrot (402) - 1 skein
Curry (3820) - 1 skein
Garnet (815) - 1 skein
Ivy (3363) - 1 skein
Lilac (210) - 1 skein
Pecan (420) - 1 skein
Purple Majesty (550) - 1 skein
Seaweed (935) - 1 skein

DMC 951 - 1 skein

Floss estimation is for stitching the sampler and several ornaments as shown as directed (1 strand of floss over 2 linen threads) on 40-count linen. DMC equivalents are only approximate, as there are no exact equivalents for hand over-dyed floss. For best results, I strongly suggest using the Weeks Dye Works cotton floss.

LeafPackage contains charting for the sampler, stitching instructions, complete finishing instructions for making each square into an ornament/scissor fob/hook hanger (backed by your choice of linen or matching fabric).

LeafI encourage you to use floss and fabric colors that match your personality and style.

LeafStitches:

Cross Stitch over two linen threads
Back Stitch
French or colonial knots (minimal - little women eyes)

Diagrams for all stitches are provided.

LeafFinishing Supplies for ornaments/scissor fobs/hook hangers:

Matching fabric or wool felt (if not backing with linen)
DMC 6-strand embroidery floss (for twisted cord)
Fiberfill or cotton balls (for stuffing)
Kreinik Custom Corder (mini drill for making twisted cord)
Basic sewing supplies and iron

LeafEach square makes an adorable small sampler for framing - great for gift giving! Gift idea: use the "little women" square - put your initials under one woman...and the initials of your friend under the other...a perfect tiny friendship sampler.

LeafBe creative! There are many ways to "dress up" your ornaments (ribbon, buttons, trims) - look though an old sewing box or basket to find inspiring ideas and backing materials!
