Greetings friends, fellow needleworkers, and new subscribers ~ welcome to the August newsletter!

It has been a beautiful sunny week here in Iowa, definitely filled with plenty of heat and humidity. I hope this update finds you enjoying beautiful summer weather, keeping cool, and finding some quiet time to work on those summer stitching projects!

This past month I have been keeping busy in my studio...I have been model stitching and charting new designs...working on all sorts of deadlines. I finished up a sampler for Just CrossStitch Magazine, packaged and shipped two new designs that are arriving in shops now, posted a new complimentary chart, and have been model stitching new designs for market in September. More on all these projects in a moment...

If you visited my blog in July, you were privileged to see a tiny peek of "Berries, Birds, and Blooms" (my sampler for the Jan/Feb issue of Just CrossStitch magazine)....you were one of the first to obtain my new complimentary chart "Stars Over Pines"...you got to read about my recent trip to the Amana Colonies and Pella...and you were able to obtain one of my favorite cookie recipes. To see what I am doing during the month and be eligible for my future giveaways and contests, visit: http://blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com/.

I continue to have fun with many of you on Twitter...I have met so many new stitching and crafting friends! I enjoy reading about what you are doing and following your links...seeing your blogs and finishes...looking at your Etsy shops...answering your questions...plus, you are the first to hear what is happening with Blue Ribbon Designs. I am blessed to have so many fabulous followers that constantly intrigue and inspire me...

Eight sweet simple samplers. Each square can stand alone for a small framed piece -OR- they can all be stitched as one long sampler (shown below) -OR- a single square may be used for an ornament, hook hanger, or fob. Package contains charting for the complete sampler and extensive finishing instructions for making each square into an ornament/scissor fob/hook hanger (backed by your choice of linen or matching fabric).

*DESIGNER NOTE*: There is an enlarged chart for the sampler design (with an overlap of four stitches - shaded area) for easy viewing; however, the shaded area on the original printing is extremely light and difficult to see - this was not intentional and will be corrected on future printing. Please use caution when switching between pages, making sure to accommodate for the four stitch overlap.

RECIPE FOR A CURE:

Cardinals For A CureRecently, Jean at Attic Needlework & Collectibles contacted me regarding her Annual Silent Auction for Breast Cancer Research. This year her already AMAZING fundraising efforts are expanding to include a published recipe book - this special cookbook "Recipe for a Cure" will even include charts and recipes from some of your favorite designers...and most importantly, all net proceeds from the sales of the recipe book are being donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I have submitted several recipes..and I have designed an ornament especially for this very worthy cause. The chart for my ornament titled "Cardinals for a Cure" (seen right) will be in the published cookbook...this will be the only place you can find this design for at least one year. This unique recipe book is not available yet...release is set for November 2010...and I will be sure to keep you updated. Even more special news - I have donated my ornament model - the exact one in the photo - to be auctioned off at the Annual Silent Auction in November....yep, stitched and finished by my own two hands! The auction (held each year - the last Saturday evening before Thanksgiving), raised approximately $20,000 last year from donations. I will be sure to keep you informed on this spectacular fundraiser later this fall...and later this year, make sure to support this very worthy cause by purchasing a copy of "Recipes for a Cure"....

I want to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who supports Blue Ribbon Designs! I feel extremely blessed to have a career in the needlework industry...and I hope my designs keep you excited enough to keep me around for many years to come.

To show my appreciation to all my wonderful/creative/unique needlework fans, followers, and friends, I have posted a new complimentary chart on my website! It is titled "Stars Over Pines" (seen above) and is a winter holiday piece (it complements "Acorns and Owls" and "Bluebirds and Daisies"). To obtain a copy of this new complimentary pattern, simply visit my website: http://www.blueribbondesigns.com/ and click on "Freebie" in the left-hand menu - you will see a photo of this new design at the top of the webpage - click on the statement "CLICK HERE FOR CHART" (directly under the photo) - a new window will open containing the design in PDF form (you will need Adobe Reader to view/print the chart). Please remember, this design is protected by copyright law - thank you for respecting my copyright. I hope you enjoy this special design - my gift to you for your continued support, friendship, and encouragement...and if you haven't stitched any of my designs before, I hope this chart will entice you to purchase some of the larger designs in my catalog from your favorite needlework shop...
