Tree. Please join me in supporting this worthy cause.
DETAILS
ARE AS FOLLOWS:
The Busy Needle hosts a
Diabetes Ornament Tree every year (this is year 9). Each year, The Busy Needle
collects handmade ornaments throughout the year to fill their beautiful tree.
Starting in November, for a monetary donation (average $10 but send what you
can afford) you get a handmade ornament off the tree PLUS a packet of freebie
charts used as a thank you for donations. The packet of freebie charts contains
charts from many popular designers....including a new complimentary chart from
Blue Ribbon Designs. This packet of freebie charts will be available until December
31, 2008.
The Busy Needle also hosts
an eBay auction. You will be able to bid on model ornaments, charts, kits and
other items donated by your favorite designers with all proceeds going towards
diabetes charities. I have donated an ornament model and a set of signed charts
to be auctioned. The auction is scheduled to start Wednesday, November 26th and run for 7 days (through December 3rd). The eBay seller ID is diabetestree. NOTE: THE 2008 AUCTION HAS OFFICIALLY ENDED.
The funds raised are then donated to local Arkansas diabetes charities, usually
to help with medications and testing supplies (a huge out of pocket expense
often $300 or more to most working poor and middle class patients even with
insurance). Last year the funds went to JDRF and Helping Hands (similar to Good
Will) for assistance with medication (they allow The Busy Needle to dedicate
the funds to specific areas)...

Unable
to make a monetary donation? The Busy Needle collects handmade ornaments throughout
the year for the tree - they can always use more ornaments! Consider stitching
or crafting an ornament - flat mailable ornaments are the most helpful, as ornaments
are shipped throughout the world.
About my donation:
I designed
a special ornament for the tree this year (see photos below). The complimentary
chart of this ornament design is available in The Busy Needle "freebie
packet" (used as a thank you for monetary donations). The
complimentary pattern is only available in The Busy Needle special freebie packet
and will not be available anywhere else until July 2009.
I have
sent the stitched model and three signed charts for the eBay auction.
The four items will be listed separately. Details
and photos of both items are listed below.

Ornament - “Red Birds for Peace”
(This is a model ornament designed especially for the diabetes tree. I personally
stitched and finished the ornament. The front and the back of the ornament are
both stitched, as shown. The finishing contains a beaded edge. The auction ornament
also has a signed thank you tag attached. (Please e-mail me with any questions.)
